March is for Migration!

During March we headed to Bayfield to take a look at Lake Huron. There was plenty of open water but close to shore there was still a wide band of snow and ice. Near the docks we saw a small group of Longtail Ducks. (They used to be called Old Squaw Ducks but the name was later changed to Longtail Ducks.) These diving ducks are known to spend the winter months on both ocean coast and the Great Lakes, especially Lake Ontario. And in the spring they head north via northern Georgian Bay and James Bay.
