We started 2013 off with a bang. As we were driving out out town we spotted a very large bird wing it’s way along the highway beside us. So of course we pulled onto a side road ahead of the bird, excitedly jumped out of the car, grabbed the binoculars and camera and saw the first Bald Eagle of the year. We have seen a couple in the river valleys between Stratford and London but they have been few and far between. We had heard that they have made a return to this part of southern Ontario and that they are nesting in the area again now that DDT has been banned. So they are always a joy to see. I didn’t get a very clear photo, but thanks to the wonders of digital cameras and the zoom feature we could confirm that the bird was indeed a bald eagle with its flash of white tail and head.
