December started out foggy and fairly mild. We headed off toward Goderich to see what we could see. We spotted about half a dozen hawks along the road until we got closer to the area where we have seen Eagles in the past. A large bird sitting in a tree near the road drew our attention & sure enough it was a juvenile Bald Eagle. As we chatted with other birders who were out looking for eagles, we noticed some white heads appearing in the distant trees. We drove around to see if we could get a better look and saw 5 of them sitting together; 2 adults and 3 juvenile birds.
I often find enthusiastic birders & photographers almost as interesting as the birds. Clearly we have to up our birding game. I’m sure he was able to get some nice shots from behind those rocks!
We decided to drive down to the harbour in Goderich before heading home again and saw about 3 dozen Bonaparte’s Gulls in the water near the tugboats. They seemed to be feeding on some small fish there.
There were also few dozen Red-breasted Mergansers hanging out with the Canada Geese as well.
