Happy New Year!

New Years started with a chilly blast of winter with blowing snow all day long. There are resolutions to keep. Finally, the bird feeders are squirrel-free and I am registered to begin participating in the Backyard Feeder counts. I will be keeping watch on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week until the end of the count at the beginning of April.
While watching the feeders this morning we saw Goldfinches, Juncos, a Cardinal, a Crow, both Red and White-Breasted Nuthatches, Chickadees and Mourning Doves. Things were pretty lively. And after a walk around the river where there were Mallards, Canada Geese and a few Gulls, we spotted the Cooper’s Hawk that has been hanging around the neighbourhood. It was on the eaves-trough of a house a couple of doors down from our house.

Anyhow, it looks as though the wintry weather is here to stay for a bit. So we will see what the change in temperature brings to the area. Happy New Year & happy birding in 2016!
